Aftercare

Aftercare Instructions – Ear piercing

You are responsible for the aftercare of your piercing. It is essential that you follow all aftercare guidance provided at your appointment and use the aftercare solution supplied.

You will be advised to return for a downsizing appointment approximately 3–6 weeks after your piercing, as recommended during your initial consultation. Downsizing is important to support correct healing and reduce the risk of irritation, migration, uneven angles, and piercing bumps.

Consent & Placement

You will be asked to confirm that you are happy with the placement of your piercing prior to the procedure and to provide signed consent.

Once consent has been given and the piercing has been carried out, placement has been agreed and confirmed by you. Any concerns regarding placement must be raised before the procedure is performed.

Jewellery & Responsibility

You are responsible for the ongoing care and security of your piercing and jewellery.

If an attachment is lost or the jewellery comes out within the first 24 hours of your appointment, we are happy to resolve this free of charge. After this period, any issues relating to lost jewellery, reinsertion, or complications will be the client’s responsibility and may incur an additional charge.

Refusal to remove jewellery or any item that may obstruct or partially obstruct the piercing process may affect correct placement or the ability to proceed safely. In such cases, responsibility for any resulting outcomes lies with the client.

Daily Care & Healing Advice

Aftercare is provided in the form of NeilMed sterile saline solution, and it is your responsibility to use this exactly as instructed, twice daily.

Do not over-clean the piercing, as this can slow down the healing process and cause irritation. Cleaning should not exceed twice per day unless otherwise advised.

When applying the saline solution, use a light spray only. Avoid over-saturating the area, as excessive product use can also lead to irritation and delayed healing.

Be gentle with your new piercing, as it can easily become irritated from knocking, clothing, washing hair, or accidental contact.

A piercing pillow is recommended for sleeping comfort and to avoid pressure on the area.

Keep hair tied back while sleeping to prevent snagging, and avoid sleeping with wet or damp hair as moisture may increase the risk of irritation.

During showers, allow clean water to rinse over the area to remove any soap residue.

Avoid direct contact with hairsprays, perfumes, and styling products.

Strenuous exercise should be approached with care during early healing, and tight clothing should be avoided for body piercings where applicable.

Clean your phone screen regularly, as bacteria can transfer easily to new piercings.

Do not remove jewellery during the healing period, as this can lead to the piercing closing or becoming infected.

Avoid swimming in chlorinated pools, hot tubs, or natural bodies of water for at least 7–10 days or until advised.

Normal Healing Signs

It is normal to experience:

  • Mild swelling, redness, bruising, and tenderness

  • Slight discharge or white/yellow fluid (not pus), which may form crusts

  • Temporary itching or sensitivity

  • Fluctuations in healing progress

  •

Piercings may also develop a mild odour if not cleaned regularly, which is normal and not necessarily a sign of infection.
